My passion for horses has been a driving force throughout my life. Born and raised on a cattle ranch in Montana horses were an everyday partnership. This relationship born out of respect and necessity still drives my love for horses today. From ranching, to racing, to rodeo, horses have influenced my life both personally and professionally. Coming from a family intrenched in cattle and horse racing my path was predetermined. Jockey, Jumping, roping, reining, I have nurtured my equine partnerships for 50+ years. It’s through these partnerships I continue to learn and grow both in training and personal development. These lessons have been passed down to my 4 sons, all great horsemen in their own right. Taking the ranch horses from the pasture to the arena to college rodeo, steer wrestling, team roping and equestrian show jumping. It is my hope now to bring together the perfect match of human and horse, and encourage all who love the life of horses to ask questions, take test drives, create connections, promote each other, support your livestock and mostly enjoy the journey.
I have had the great fortune to have been raised in Wyoming and reared from a fourth generation ranching family. It is hard to recall a time when I was not training, shoeing, buying, or selling horses. From my formidable years at cow camp starting in the mid 70’s on the upper Green River, to showing cutting horses at Augusta, having crossed the paths with some of the greatest cowboys and horse trainers of our era, it is my pleasure and passion to share some of the finest horses we’ve ever owned and trained. It is this passion for making great horses through ranch work, cow work, and consistent training practices, combined with selling quality bred and trained working ranch and prospect horses that make 307performancehorses.com a revered family operation.
My first horse was fast… I mean FAST!! Well, as fast as my legs would take him. My earliest memory of horses is racing my 3 brothers around the ranch on our stick horses. I won’t say I always won, but me an ol’ legs certainly held our own. From my stick horses it was on to a grey pony named “Captain Boone”. I’m still not sure why or where my parents picked up this fella, but I’m sure they over paid! He was the meanest, no doubt smartest little cuss around. He’d wipe me off on trees, Sul up in creeks, and only had a descent walk when you were headed home. This pony was my initiation to horses and turns out one of my greatest teachers. Now in my mid twenties, the frustration I experienced as a boy on “Captain Boone” lead to better understanding and patience as an adult. Raised on a ranch in NE Wyoming, horses were just part of life. Beyond the tasks of everyday work, I drug my ranch horses to every high school rodeo, match race and branding I could. Learning that an engaged mind is a good mind for a horse (and rider). I college rodeo’d for LCCC in Cheyenne and went to to the University of Wyoming, qualifying for the national finals in steer wrestling. I compete and coach in steer wrestling and enjoy team roping and helping my brother with 307 Horse Racing. Currently I am training all around horses with the mind and athleticism to go in any direction. I am a believer in finding the right horse for the right person for the right purpose.
Raised on a family ranch outside of Steamboat Springs, while working over 10,000 head of yearlings every year, my love and foundation for riding and training working ranch horses started early. For over a decade now, I have been training and racing barrel horses and continue to provide that needed foundation in working ranch and prospect horses. Double majoring in Equine Science and Equine Training Management, I continue to train, breed, and raise horses every day.
Having competed at the highest level in high school, college, and professionally, training and racing barrel horses, I have continued training performance, prospect, and working ranch horses. I now have a stable of brood mares, stand a couple of well bred stallions, and continue to refine our training processes everyday.
I actively compete, train, and coach barrel horses and clients, as well provide foundation training for all horses. I am passionate about giving horses the time and techniques to help them be successful. I train full-time with a focus on young colts, and foundation training to make the best all around prospects for life’s journey horseback.
